The hero resembles Sturgeon a character from Link's home island in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
The fairy's dialogue seems to be a tribute to Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as she would yell "Hey, listen!" at Link in the game as well as give information on enemies.
